    The captain of the Holland cruise ship, Oosterdam, is a very good friend of my sister and her husband. He's actually from England.

    That's funny, my uncle Meindert Zeeders used to be captain of the HAL, but that was probably before this friends time,(seventies?) so he will not have known him.
    This Holland in my blog was a rather notorious salvage ship.

    His name is John Mercer. My sister, Maggie, and Bud have gone on a lot of cruises with him at the helm.

    :) Sounds very nice!
    My father was a captain / firstmate on board of several coasters, and I have made lots of trips with him, visiting different countries. Most impressive was Russia (Leningrad) in the winter of 1973/1974.
